Mirah, unlike the other JVM languages is *just* a compiler. Source in, executable code out, no runtime library.

Right, which is why Ruby (which is very flexible) or Groovy (which already has all the Java elements) are my initial thoughts.

Yes...if only static compilation and zero runtime library were on that list :) I wouldn't have to build Mirah.

Yeah, good call. jruby-prof is probably best for profiling Ruby code, but Java profilers give a "full system" view.
